WEST FRANKFORT — The West Frankfort City Council Tuesday night approved resolutions dealing with the upcoming Old King Coal Festival in the city.

City Clerk Angie Baker Deaton tells us the council approved a proclamation declaring May 9-11 as the West Frankfort Old King Coal Festival and a resolution for the Old King Coal Committee to sponsor their annual Old King Coal Parade on Saturday, May 11 at 1 p.m.

The council agreed to fund the amount needed for the Beta Club to attend the National Competition in Oklahoma City in June. The Beta Club will report back on their fundraising efforts at the May 14

The council approved the hire of Dustin Lawrence to be a police office in West Frankfort, a donation of $9,800 to the West Frankfort park to construct a sand volleyball court, a donation of $16,000 to Mission Serve for materials for repairs of six or seven homes in West Frankfort, approved a collective bargaining agreement between the city and the Teamsters Local Union No. 50 to cover the period of March 1, 2019 to Feb. 28, 2023 and the engineering agreement for federal participation for the I-57/Route 149 Interchange Modification.

In other business, the council approved an estimate from Tri-County Roofing for $3,400 regarding emergency repairs to the Historical Museum, a purchase in the amount of $2,475.42 for additional tables and chairs for the Common Area on the east side of the West Frankfort Mall, an invoice from IDOT for $80,075.36 regarding the city share of the construction costs for the East St. Louis Street project and an invoice from the Accumed Group in the amount of $6,840.63 for the ambulance billing fee for the EMS software program. Deaton says part of this was a billing fee and part was an annual bill for software.
