MARION — Marion Police says a southeast Missouri man was involved in a shooting with an officer shooting last Friday in Marion.
Police says 28-year-old Ethan Adams of Sikeston is charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated fleeing and eluding police and multiple other traffic charges related to this incident. Illinois State Police continue to investigate.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle Adams was driving for a possible DUI after getting a report about reckless driving for several miles on I-57. Adams fled and evaded police through Marion, swerving at oncoming traffic, driving in opposite lanes of traffic and traveling both on and off the roadway to get away from police.
Adams eventually pulled into the Huck’s parking lot on East DeYoung Street and stopped his vehicle. When officers got out of their vehicles, Adams fled again ramming a police car and hitting a Marion officer with his vehicle.
As Adams’ vehicle struck the officer and the police car, the officer fired his duty weapon at the suspect’s vehicle, striking Adams at least once. Adams fled the scene and continued to evade officers for several more miles. The vehicle eventually became disabled, drove off the roadway, and crashed into a business property on North Market Street.
Adams was taken into custody and transported to Heartland Regional Medical Center. Adams was later flown to a trauma center for further medical treatment. The Marion officer was treated for injuries sustained from being struck by the suspect vehicle.
Both Adams and the officer are expected to recover.
