MT. VERNON — The Mt. Vernon Police Department is reminding drivers to always have their attention on the road after a child was hit by a car Wednesday morning on the city’s north side.
Police received the call just after 7:30 a.m. that a 10-year-old had been struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Salem Rd. and Oakland Ave. Mt. Vernon Police Chief Trent Page says the child made an abrupt U-turn into the path of a southbound car and the vehicle was not able to stop. The child was taken to Crossroads Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
But, with temperatures warming up and more people outside, Page is reminding residents how important it is to have their focus on the road when behind the wheel.
Page says the driver was not cited, and is not anticipated to be cited for the accident Wednesday.
