Freda I. Johnston, 94, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 9:30 P.M. June 9, 2018 at her residence . She was born May 27, 1924 in Jefferson County, Illinois to Foster Raymond Marlow and Mildred Nolta. She married James Russell Johnston on April 13, 1952. They were blessed with 56 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on March 9, 2009.
She is survived by her son, Raymond Johnston and wife, Kela of Mount Vernon, Illinois; daughters, Barbara Johnston of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Debbie Ripoli and husband, Dominick of Vienna, Ohio; 3 grandchildren, Lance Johnston of Lakeland, Florida, Bryan Johnston and wife, Catherine of Lakeland, Florida, and Nicolas Ripoli of Dyer, Indiana; 3 great grandchildren, Lilly, J.J., and Sofia; sister, Norma Jean Scott of Mount Vernon, Illinois; 2 sisters-in-law-, Frances Wilkey of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Audrey Quinn of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by her parents,Foster Raymond Marlow and Mildred Nolta, husband, James Russel Johnston, and brother, Wendell Marlow.
Freda loved quilting and had made many quilts for others. She was also a great cook. Freda had wonderful Christian values and was a member of the Lebanon Baptist Church her entire life. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her. Freda was a seamstress and had worked at Mode O’Day in Mount Vernon and Lyn Gai Garment Factory in Sesser.
Funeral Service:1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Chapel in Woodlawn, Illinois with Reverend Don Rector officiating. Interment: Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
