WMIX and parent company Withers Broadcasting took home multiple Silver Dome Awards from the Illinois Broadcasting Association’s annual conference in Normal earlier this week.
Withers Broadcasting and Dana Communications President and CEO Dana Withers was named as the IBA Vincent T. Wasilewski Broadcaster of the Year, the highest honor given by the IBA to an active broadcaster each year.
WMIX was awarded the Best Radio Station Use of New Media in the small market category. The honor is credited to Avery Barton for the online video series WMIX Extras. WMIX also took third place in the same category for WMIX Sports’ work on social media.
WMIX morning show host Sandi was the runner-up for the Best Radio Station Personality in the small market category.
WRXX was awarded a Silver Dome Award for Best Radio Station Self-Promotion credited to air talent Matt James for X95: The Wake Up Call.
WQRL was awarded two first place Silver Dome Awards, and had an additional three top three nominations in various categories in the Illinois Small Market Radio division.
Best Radio Play-by-Play Small Market Radio went to Withers Broadcasting & Dana Communications General Manager Chris Hugo for Q106: Rangerettes Comeback Over Herrin. Best Radio Series or Documentary Small Market Radio went to Dana Communications Operations Manager Ashley Hugo for Q106 “EQlipse” Radio.
WQRL/WMCL/WISH News Director Barry Wright also placed in the top three in the Best Radio Series or Documentary Small Market Radio category for his coverage of the Franklin County Courthouse Referendum, and WQRL/WMIX sports broadcaster Danny Czerwinski placed in the top three in the Best Sportscaster Small Market Radio category, and Best Play-by-Play Small Market Radio category.
Withers Broadcasting sister station WVZA was awarded Best Radio Humorous Commercial for Medium Market Radio credited to Gavin Murphy and Wes Bennett for WVZA: Adams Shoe Store The Holidays. Gavin Murphy also had an additional top three nomination for WVZA.
