A St. Peter man charged in the murder of Ramsey man saw his trial date pushed back in Fayette County court Tuesday to Aug. 20.

Alexander Beccue, 24, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, Class M felonies, possession of a stolen vehicle, a Class 2 felony, and felon in possession of a firearm, a Class 3 felony.

Authorities say Beccue shot Joshua Smith of Ramsey in the head on Aug. 11, 2017. Smith later died at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Beccue faces life in prison if convicted.Part of the ongoing investigation is related to DNA evidence from the scene.

The state filed an order to consume DNA in the test on April 16. Assistant State’s Attorney Brenda Mathis said they do not expect results on the DNA for 30 to 45 days. Beccue is scheduled to next appear in court at 1 p.m. June 12.
