The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is alerting the public to phone calls being made that appear to come from the sheriff’s office and then the caller asking the person to call them back at a different number.

The sheriff’s office assures the public that they will never call someone and ask for a return call at a different number.

It’s unclear what would happen if someone calls back the other number; however, authorities recommend hanging up on the caller and not calling back the other number.

Also, they remind people to never give out personal or financial information over the phone.
