A switch malfunction caused the power to go out to about 3,400 Ameren customers in Benton for about five minutes this morning.

Ameren Spokesperson Brian Bretsch says some automated technology in the area detected the outage and made a switch to another power source that allowed the power to come back on.

Bretsch says two Ameren crews will be in the Benton area today making repairs.
