Drivers can expect to see extra police on the roads over the holidays.

State and local police are launching their holiday enforcement effort focusing on preventing more fatalities says IDOT spokesperson Gianna Urgo.

The push is on to prevent the more than 1000 people who have died on Illinois roads this year says Urgo.

Motorists can expect to see extra patrols, roadside safety checks and special details through January 2nd.
