MT. VERNON — A Mt. Vernon Man faces new charges related to a second extortion plot involving the same victim.

24-year-old Nicholas P. Duncan is accused of extorting money from a man with threats of false child pornography accusations against the man if he does not comply. Duncan was charged Aug. 11 with three Class 3 felonies, including one count of theft and two counts of intimidation.

The new case brings about additional Class 3 felony charges of intimidation and theft with a prior allegation involving the same victim. Class 3 felonies are punishable by two to five years in prison with the possibility of probation.

Duncan and 20-year-old Taylor Colbert were arrested last December after a joint Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office sting. Duncan was charged for his alleged role in a blackmail scheme involving false child pornogaphy allegations. The victim in the case had already made prior payments to Duncan before his arrest.

After posting a reduced bond earlier this year and securing his release, Duncan was arrested again last week–accused of extorting the same victim both on Aug. 2 and Aug. 7.

Duncan is currently held in the Jefferson County Justice Center with bond set at $75,000 and a preliminary hearing set for Aug. 29 at 1:30 p.m.
