(SALEM, IL) — In a bench trial Tuesday in Marion County Court, Judge Amanda Ade-Harlow ruled that a 24-year-old Sandoval man charged with a lengthy police chase in Salem was not guilty of the charges by reason of insanity Jacob Goodman was arrested in May 2016 after he took police on a pursuit through Salem; ultimately reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour after the chase left the city. Goodman reportedly took the car he was driving in the pursuit without permission of his mother and two related misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass to vehicles were dismissed. In September the court ordered a mental fitness examination of Goodman and Dr. Daniel Cuneo ultimately found beyond a reasonable doubt that Goodman was not guilty by reason of insanity. A status hearing is scheduled for April 18 for a status of Goodman’s evaluation in the case.
