Shirley A. Skidmore, 88, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 9:16 pm February 25, 2025 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born February 1, 1937 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Reverend Edward and Bertha (Lowery) Shannon. Shirley married Jerry Skidmore on June 4, 1955.

In addition to her husband of nearly seventy years, Shirley is survived by her son, Johnnie Skidmore of Mount Vernon, Illinois; daughter, Reta Harris and husband Devan “Dumpy” of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandson, Eric Harris and wife, Autumn of Mount Vernon, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Alexis, Isabel, Mackynze, and Colton Harris; sisters, Norma Shaw of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Jane Hefner and husband, Leonard of Mount Vernon, Illinois; brother, Melvin Shannon and wife, Linda of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Brenda K. Skidmore; brother, Todd Shannon; sisters-in-law, Christine Shannon, Olympia Skidmore, and Brenda S. Skidmore; and brothers-in-law, Bill Shaw and James Skidmore.

Shirley attended Hoits church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed.

A Graveside Service will be held Monday, March 3, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Wolf Prairie Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Pastor Eddie Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Shirley’s honor to Wolf Prairie Cemetery.
