Joyce Owens O’Neal, 85, of Shell Lake, Wisconsin, passed away at 9:40 am February 21, 2025 at Shell Lake Health Care Center in Shell Lake, Wisconsin.  She was born June 25, 1939 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Georgie G. and Emily I. (Jones) Meadows. Joyce first married Robert Owens on February 14, 1959 in Mount Vernon. He preceded her in death on January 8, 1987. She later married George J. O’Neal on June 6, 1992 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He preceded her in death on October 23, 2004.

Joyce is survived by her son, Donald E. Owens of Minona, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Jasmine Wright of Seattle, Washington, Jared Wright of McLeansboro, Illinois, Zachery Owens of Minong, Wisconsin, Kaitlyn Owens of Mingon, Wisconsin, Jayce Ullery of Woodlawn, Illinois, and Sydney Rose Owens of Minong, Wisconsin; brothers, Joe Meadows and wife, Nancy of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Harold Meadows and wife, Dawn of Mount Vernon; sister, Mary Perry of Alexandria, Alabama; and sister-in-law, Linda Meadows of Mount Vernon and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Joyce was preceded in death by her daughter, Janet E. Owens; sisters, Georgia Quinn and DiAnne Wright and husband, Dennis; and brother, Artie Meadows.

Joyce worked for Hunt’s Restaurant and Kroger in Mount Vernon for many years and was called “The Kroger Lady”. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Joyce was of the Christian faith. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She also enjoyed taking cruises to the Caribbean.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 28, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Chapel in Woodlawn, Illinois with Pastor Jason Newell officiating. Interment will follow.
