Calvin L. Barbee, age 98 of Salem, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Helia Healthcare in Salem.

Calvin was born on November 1, 1926 in Kinmundy the son of Guy and Flossie (Yost) Barbee. He married Betty Jones on December 26, 1949 in Salem and she preceded him in death.

He is survived by three children, Bruce Barbee and wife Amy of Forreston, Rex Barbee of Salem, and Janet Goldsboro and husband Greg of Patoka; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; one sister, Zola Collee; and a son in-law: John Crain of Salem

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a daughter, Ann Crain

Calvin was a graduate of the Kinmundy-Alma High School, after his graduation he served his country in the United States Navy, during World War II. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, and a 75-year member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. He retired from the United States Postal Service as a rural letter carrier after 42 years of employment. He enjoyed gardening, flowers, tending to the birds and animals of the neighborhood. He coached his daughter’s softball team, was a basketball referee, a leader in the Boy Scouts for many years, and worked as the janitor for Grace UMC.

Funeral Services for Calvin Barbee will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at Crouse Funeral Home with Rev. Carol Lakota-Eastin officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Kinmundy with Military Rites by the Salem American Legion. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Grace United Methodist Church, Kinmundy-Alma Alumni Association or the Boy Scouts of America and can be received at the funeral home.
