MT. VERNON, IL — Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Tuesday morning to a report of domestic disturbance with a gun at 1504 N. Old Centralia Lane Mt. Vernon. While Deputies were responding, it was reported the suspect left the scene, driving a silver Toyota Corolla. EMS personnel arrived on scene to evaluate the victim, who did not require treatment.
While enroute to assist, a Deputy observed the suspect vehicle leaving the Casey’s General Store parking lot at Salem Road and George Street in Mt. Vernon, which then proceeded east on George Street. The Deputy was able to get behind the Corolla on N. Pumphouse Rd near N. Morton Lane and initiate a felony stop. Other Deputies, Mt. Vernon Police Department officers, Illinois State Police Troopers, and investigators with the Secretary of State Police responded to assist the Deputy.
The Mt. Vernon Police Department brought the armored Bearcat to assist with the felony stop and after arriving, the Corolla attempted to flee the scene, ramming the Bearcat, causing serious damage to the Corolla and negligible damage to the Bearcat. Officers on scene were able to pin in the Corolla, to prevent further attempts to flee, and after several minutes of commands, the driver, 24-year-old Johnathan L. Ames-Bourn of Highland, surrendered and was taken into custody with no further incident. A search of the Corolla revealed additional evidence. No officers were injured during the arrest.
Ames-Bourn was transported to the Jefferson County Jail and incarcerated to await his pre-trial detention hearing. He was arrested for the crimes of Armed Robbery, Aggravated Domestic Battery, Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons, and Resisting / Obstructing a Peace Officer.
