Melvin Dean Jones, 67, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 6:12 am February 9, 2025 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born May 27, 1957 in Mount Vernon to Walter and JoAnn (Mezo) Jones. Dean married Cheryl (Rector) Jones on November 5, 1977. They were blessed with 47 years of marriage.

In addition to his beloved wife, Dean is survived by his mother, JoAnn Jones; daughters, Shana Gerberding and husband, Alex and Denae Jones and husband, Doug; siblings, David Jones and wife, Leslie, Sandra Lynch and husband, Gary, Danny Jones and wife, Debbie, and Jim Jones and wife, Shirley; bonus granddaughter, Marlee; and several nieces and nephews.

Dean was preceded in death by his father, Walter Jones; and brother, Jason Jones.

Dean worked at Continental Tire for over 40 years where he had many lifelong friends. He also loved doing landscaping jobs and mowing yards. Dean was always there when family or friends needed help. He always wore a smile and a Jesus hat on his head. He loved being a son, husband, father, Pa, and friend. He took great pride in his yard and always had the best looking grass. Dean was also a dedicated member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Wesley United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Gina Ellis officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials may be made Dean’s honor to Wesley United Methodist Church.
