Charles Dale Donoho, 92, of rural Iuka, passed into the arms of his Heavenly Father, on January 25, 2025.
Charles “Dale” was born on October 9, 1932, at home, in rural Jefferson County, to Floyd Richard and Mary “Thelma” (Clark) Donoho. He married Hilda Marie Sager on June 4, 1954, at Wells Chapel Church, and they enjoyed 70 years of marriage, working side by side on the family farm.
Dale is survived by his four children, Steven Donoho and wife Sherry, Nila Hawkins and husband Wayne, Arlen Donoho and wife Rhonda, and Erin Donoho and wife Regina, all of rural Iuka; eight granddaughters; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Sharon Marlow and husband Mark of rural Mt. Vernon; and one sister-in-law, Irene Donoho of rural Texico.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Sager Donoho; and his two brothers, Richard “Don” Donoho and wife Loraine, and Delbert Donoho.
Dale attended Climax one-room school, and then Salem Community High School. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force, during the Korean War, from January 1951 through December 1954. When he completed his service in the Air Force, he and his wife purchased a 100-acre farm, on which they worked alongside each other, in building a family owned and operated grain and livestock farm. In 2013, the Marion County Soil and Water Conservation District awarded them with the Conservation Farm Family award. Additionally, he worked as a welder at Illinois Central Railroad Carshop in Centralia for 30 years, and was an independent seed dealer for over 30 years.
Dale was a member of Wells Chapel Baptist Church during his growing years, but was a member of Donoho Prairie Christian Church for the past 60 years. He served on the church’s board for many years, including as the board secretary and treasurer. He also served on the Kell Consolidated School Board, including as chairman of the board, for many years. He was always willing to help out a family member or a neighbor in need, and did so many times during his life.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public visitation for Mr. Donoho, and a private graveside service for immediate family will be held at Donoho Prairie Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Donoho Prairie Cemetery, and will be accepted by mail to the Osborn Funeral Home, P.O. Box 130, Dix, Illinois 62830.
