MT. VERNON, IL — The Jefferson County Coroner has identified 20-year-old Carrion Holmes as the man who shot and killed himself following a car theft in rural Mt. Vernon. Authorities say Holmes, who was already wanted for stealing a vehicle, died from a single gunshot wound to the head after a confrontation with a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy. The incident occurred last Thursday night, and an investigation by Illinois State Police is ongoing.
