Phyllis Lee Yearwood, 84, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 2:30 am Sunday, December 29, 2024 at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon. She was born June 18, 1940 in Mount Vernon to the late Harry Lee and Eva Loraine (Sweat) Henn. Phyllis married Charles F. “Sonny” Yearwood on November 28, 1959 at First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with nearly 38 years of marriage before he passed away in July 1997.
Phyllis is survived by her son, Scott Yearwood of Huntersville, North Carolina; daughter, Kristi Chobanian of Mount Vernon; husband, Max Reynolds of Mount Vernon; granddaughters, Autumn Ramirez and Taylor Ramirez; and grandson, Charles “Tyler” Yearwood of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Phyllis and Max had a residence in Floral City, Florida where they enjoyed spending time and searching for different rare pieces at flea markets. She was an avid reader of Danielle Steel books and when she was done with them, she donated them to libraries. Phyllis hand painted scarves and donated them to people with health needs on top of helping council grief groups. She had a love for flowers, especially Lavender. Phyllis was a proud mother, wife, and grandmother.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Mr. Marty Mills officiating. Interment will follow at New Shiloh Cemetery in Mount Vernon. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested to plant a tree in memory of Phyllis Yearwood.
