BENTON – The Benton City Council Monday morning unanimously decided to let Knox the Dalmation stay with the Benton Fire Department.
Knox was rescued from a Jefferson County animal shelter two years ago by the fire department, but the previous city council never approved Knox and said he could be a liability.
Benton Fire Chief Shane Cockrum provided a document to the city explaining what will take place with Knox and how he will be managed in order for him to remain with the fire department. Cockrum will also be working with Public Properties Commissioner Cathy Ann Garavalia about details and certification for Knox.
Cockrum says they listened to everyone’s concerns and is thankful for the council’s decision. He says Knox does serve a purpose.
Cockrum says they are deeming Knox to be more of a facilities/fire safety animal.
The chief welcomes anyone wishing to see Knox to drop by the fire station when they can.
