SALEM, IL — Marion County Clerk Steve Fox says the county board cannot increase the property tax levy without holding another vote. This follows a proposal by the Finance Committee to add an additional one percent to the 3.4 percent increase approved earlier this month. Committee Chair Chris Krupp had suggested the change could be made without a vote, but Fox clarified that any modification would require board approval. The levy increase has already faced opposition from some residents who pushed for no tax hike during the previous meeting.
