Phyllis June Wilson, 89, of Bluford, Illinois, passed away at 3:40 pm October 10, 2024 at Silver Foxes Senior Living and Rehabilitation in McLeansboro, Illinois. She was born February 10, 1935 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Charles and Grace (Hart) Carpenter. Phyllis married Jerry Bob Williams on April 4, 1952. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1991. She later married James H. “Jim” Wilson on April 29, 2005 and he survives.
In addition to her beloved husband, Phyllis is survived by her children, Jerry L. Williams and wife, Sue of Nampa, Idaho, Larry B. Williams and wife, Bev of Mount Vernon, Debra D. Williams of Mount Vernon, and Darrin Williams and wife, Sherri of Carlyle, Illinois; grandchildren, Mandy Garner and husband, Mike, Brandy Nonnenmacher, Chris Himelick and wife, Nicki, Kris Williams and wife, Aubrie, Justin Steinkamp and wife, Jada, Jeremy Williams, Joshua Williams and wife, Katie, Shareef W. Aissa, Nora J. Chambliss and husband, Wade, Kaitlyn Crowe and husband, Brandon, and Raeshelle Braye and husband, Brandon; twenty-four great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, Duane Carpenter and wife, Beth; sisters-in-law, Nancy Hancock and husband, Larry, Judith Schilling and husband, Larry, and Rebecca Westfall; nieces, Kathy Ilges, Sharon Boldt and husband, Jerry, Susan Langford and husband, Eric, and Valerie Hancock; and many Hart family cousins.
In addition to her parents and first husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her son, Charles L. “Chucky” Williams; granddaughter, Melanie Grace Aissa; sister, Wanda Setzekorn and husband, Paul; sisters-in-law, Julie Carpenter and Debra Cox; and nephew, Scott Carpenter.
Phyllis made a career as a dedicated pharmacy technician. She worked for several local pharmacies and retired after many years at Byrd Watson. Phyllis enjoyed square dancing with her friends, as well as antiquing and refinishing furniture in her spare time. She loved to travel all over the United States and Canada in the RV with Jim. She was a faithful member of Meadowbrook Christian Church. Phyllis will be remembered as a beloved wife, devoted mother, treasured grandmother, loving sister, and dear aunt and cousin to many. She will be missed.
A Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 10:00 am with Reverend Michael Sheets officiating. Interment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made in Phyllis’ honor to the ALS Foundation in memory of her granddaughter, Melanie or the American Cancer Society in memory of her first husband, Jerry.
