MT. VERNON – The Mt. Vernon Fire Chief has announced the designated leaf burning dates for this fall. Residents are reminded to follow all safety guidelines during these periods to ensure a safe and environmentally responsible way to manage fallen leaves. Leaf Burning Dates:

  • First Period: Monday, October 14 – Sunday, October 20
  • Second Period: Monday, November 11 – Sunday, November 17

Burning Hours:

  • Allowed Time: Between sunrise and sunset each day.

Important Rules:

  • Burning is not permitted on public streets, sidewalks, drainage ditches, or over manhole covers.
  • Written permission is required to burn on someone else’s property.
  • Fires must be attended by a person 18 years or older at all times.
  • The Fire Chief may cancel burning during these periods due to high winds, dry conditions, or other factors.
