CLINTON COUNTY – The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public of a possible postal scam in the area.
According to the sheriff’s office, people have received mail from the Clinton County Seizure Unit claiming the recipient owes a delinquent tax debt and that the letter is a final notice. It claims Federal Tax authorities can now seize Social Security benefits, and garnish wages and bank accounts to satisfy the outstanding debt.
However, the sheriff’s office notes there is no Clinton County Seizure Unit in Illinois, and says if you receive such a notice simply toss it in the trash.
