MOUNT VERNON — Joan Louise Schulte, 85, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 3:25 pm April 24, 2024 at her residence. She was born March 29, 1939 in Saint Louis, Missouri to the late Hugo Joseph and Agnes Marie (Oģrinc) Kern. Joan married Arthur “Art” George Schulte on June 24, 1955 in Saint Louis, Missouri. They were blessed with nearly sixty-one years of marriage before he preceded her in death on January 26, 2016.
Joan is survived by children, Debra A. Denham of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Arthur J. Schulte and wife, Cheryl of Mount Vernon, Illinois, William “Bill” A. Schulte and wife, Vickie of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Donna M. Mays and husband, Donnie of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Jane E. Clemens of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and John A. Schulte and wife, Randi of Fields of Rough, Kentucky; grandchildren, Stephanie Downey and husband, Gabe of Saint Peters, Missouri, Suzanne Gipperich and husband, Randy of Florissant, Missouri, Brandon Schulte and wife, Lea of Bonnie, Illinois, Whitney Waldman and husband, Brett of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Brian L. Mays and Jenafer of Wesley Chapel, Florida; and many great-grandchildren; sisters, Agnes Marie Johnson, Dorothy Indelicato and husband, Joe, and Kathy Inabnit and husband, Larry, all of Saint Louis, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by son-in-law, John “Wes” Clemens; grandson, Blake Mays; brother, George Kern; and sisters, Lucille Kern and Mary Holder.
Joan was a member of Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon.
A Visitation will be held Monday, April 29, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Father Steve Pautler officiating. Inurnment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois at a later date. Memorials may be made in Joan’s honor to Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
