MARION COUNTY — A 40-year-old Centralia former minister accused of child pornography crimes will be allowed to move out of state as his criminal case moves forward in Marion County County.

Former Calumet Street Christian Church Worship Minister Ian Maphet was arrested in December after Jefferson County Sheriff’s Detective Bobby Wallace received a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children’s Task Force of child pornography activity in Centralia.

The investigation led to a search warrant being secured for and executed for Maphet’s electronic devices. Maphet was taken to the Marion County Jail and was formally charged in Marion County Court with two Class X felonies for reproduction of child pornography and two Class 2 felonies for possession of child pornography.

After hearing evidence from the Illinois State Police, the Calumet Street Christian Church terminated Maphet.
On Tuesday Judge Christopher Matoush granted Maphet’s request to relocate to Georgia.

Maphet will have to follow the same conditions when he moves as he was given for his release after his arrest, such as no internet-capable electronics, no internet access, no contact with anyone under the age of 18, or with the Calumet Street Christian Church, home confinement with a GPS monitor. He was also required to sign a waiver of extradition and agree to appear at all future court hearings in the case.

He’s next scheduled to appear on May 28 for a pretrial hearing in the Marion County Courthouse.
