While counties across Illinois continue to count ballots in the 2024 Primary Election, in Marion County with all 37 precincts reporting, Republican challenger Claude Howell appears to have beaten Republican incumbent Troy Cannon with 51% of the votes for County Coroner.

Fewer than 150 votes separate the two candidates in the unofficial vote totals. Absentee and mail-in ballots will continue to roll in over the next two weeks and will be counted if they’re postmarked March 19th.

Incumbent Coroner Cannon posted his concession on his Facebook page Tuesday night, saying Howell won the race and adding he will hold office holders accountable and will run for County Board.

Howell will face Democratic candidate retired physician Anton Dubrik in the November General Election.
