CLAY COUNTY — The Clay County Sheriff’s Department is alerting the public that a credit card skimmer was found Friday on a gas pump at a Clay City business.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded Friday to Casey’s General Store in Clay City to investigate a possible theft. Upon their arrival, Casey’s employees advised deputies they had located a credit card skimmer on one of the gas pumps.
The sheriff’s office describes skimmers as devices that are placed on fuel pumps, ATMs, and other machines that accept credit/debit cards to steal account information.
The sheriff’s office says it hopes that with assistance from Casey’s personnel, they’ll be able to narrow down the timeframe as to when the device was placed on the pump. If anyone believes their debit/credit card has been compromised please notify the bank or credit card company. If you have suffered a loss as a result of this, please contact the sheriff’s office at 618-665-3316.
