MARION COUNTY — The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to a new phone scam in the area asking people for personal information.
According to Sheriff Kevin Cripps, the scam involves someone claiming to be with the “FBI- Border Customs Patrol” calling and claiming a package was recovered with drugs and money enclosed with the name of the person they called attached.
The suspect then requests more personal information.
Cripps urges people not to give personal to anyone, noting no law enforcement agent will ever call and ask for this type of information over the phone. He advises anyone receiving such a call to hang up on them.
