WASHINGTON COUNTY — The Washington County Coroner’s Office is reporting a 63-year-old Venedy woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday on Illinois State Route 127 at Holzhauer Auto Mall Drive.
According to the coroner’s office, Denise I. Dyck was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:18 p.m.
Coroner Mark Styninger says Dyck was the unrestrained driver of a vehicle in the northbound lane of State 127. She was reportedly waiting to turn into the Holzhauer Auto Dealership when she was struck from the rear by another northbound vehicle, pushing her vehicle into the southbound lane where it was struck head-on by a southbound vehicle.
The driver of that vehicle was transported from the scene with major injuries. The driver of the northbound vehicle which struck Dyck refused treatment. Toxicology samples were obtained by Coroner Styninger for routine testing.
Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction unit responded to the scene as well which caused the highway to be shut down for hours.
Agencies at the scene were the Washington County Ambulance Service, Nashville Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Nashville Fire Department, Washington County EMA, Pinckneyville Ambulance Service, and the Washington County Coroner.
The cause of death appears to be a closed head injury with a cervical fracture and the manner of death is accidental.
The crash continues to be investigated by the Nashville Police Department, Illinois State Police, and the Washington County Coroner’s Office.
