MOUNT VERNON — A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family of a young girl shot to death this weekend in Mt. Vernon.

An obituary released Wednesday says 16-year-old Julissa Mercedes Laslie died just before 5 p.m. Saturday, January 13, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

Mt. Vernon Police are continuing their investigation into the shooting. While they quickly made an arrest in the case, the question remains as to why was Julissa shot.

An armed 16-year-old juvenile male was taken into custody at the scene but currently isn’t being charged as an adult, so his identity remains withheld.
