IRVINGTON — John “Ed” Brookman, 84, of Irvington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Fireside House Nursing Home of Centralia.

Ed was born September 1, 1939 in Mt. Vernon, IL, the son of John Everett Brookman and Anna Imogene (Tyler) Brookman. He married Donna Lee Smiley on August 19, 1967 and she preceded him in death on September 13, 2005.

Ed is survived by two daughters: Tracy Kwiatkowski and husband Roger of Walnut Hill, and Shelly Day and husband Bob of Centralia; four grandchildren: Josh Day and wife Cary of Centralia, Becca Deomes and husband Domonic of Centralia, RJ Kwiatkowski and wife Sammy of Centralia, and Cassandra Kwiatkowski and Fiancé Billy Joe Austin of Cave-In -Rock, IL; six grandchildren: Jameson Day, Bronwyn Day, Atlas Deomes, Eden Deomes, Todd Kwiatkowski, and Beau Kwiatkowski.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents: John Everett and Anna Imogene Brookman; wife: Donna Lee Brookman; son: Bobby Brookman; brother: Ronnie Brookman; sister: Brenda Sledge; and an infant sister: Shirley Mae Brookman.

Ed was a member of the American Legion Post 446, Masonic Lodge and Shriner’s. He served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. In his younger years, Ed enjoyed camping with his wife and grandkids, especially at Carlyle Lake. He was known for being an Avid Orphans fan, especially basketball. His Uncle Harvey was his best friend. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 6:00 pm at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Joannie Naraghi officiating with Military Rites accorded at the Funeral Home.
