MOUNT VERNON — Danny Junior Fowler, 77, of Foley, Alabama, formerly of Benton, Illinois and Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away January 5, 2024 at South Baldwin Regional Hospital in Foley, Alabama. He was born September 2, 1946 in Harrisburg, Illinois to the late George and Louise Fowler. Danny first married Marcella (Roberson) Fowler on February 14, 1970. She preceded him in death on September 15, 1993. He later married DiAnn Reed Fowler on February 24, 1994. They were blessed with nearly 30 years of marriage.

In addition to his beloved wife, Danny is survived by his children, Russell Shane Fowler of Jasper, Alabama, Quent Hamilton and wife, Michelle of Marion, Illinois, Stephanie Leftwich and husband, Jonathan of Pelham, Alabama, and Angela Stoecklin and husband, Tony of Centralia, Illinois; grandchildren, Holden Reel and Swatty, CJ Berry and wife, Annie, Dawson Berry and Paige, Brook Hamilton, Harlie Fowler, and Mikayla Leftwich; three great-grandchildren, plus one expected in June; sister, Sherry Somers of Carbondale, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Danny was preceded in death by his infant great-grandson, Hampton Berry; and brother-in-law, Ronnie Somers.

Danny was a proud coal miner of 40+ years at Freeman Coal, Kerr McGee, Drummond Company, and American Coal. He finished his mining career at A.L. Lee Corporation. Danny enjoyed supporting all his grandchildren in various sporting events and school activities.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm Mr. Michael Sheets officiating. Interment will follow at Knob Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice or Knob Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville, Illinois.
