MARION COUNTY — A 21-year-old Centralia man is in the Marion County Jail in connection with the shooting of a juvenile female early Monday morning at a Salem residence.
According to Salem police, Diego Barradas was arrested following a traffic stop. He was taken to the Marion County Jail on charges of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, attempted first-degree murder and intimidation.
Officers responded shortly after 3 a.m. Monday to a home in the 1300 block of North Trenary where they found the young female had been shot.
EMS treated the girl at the scene before transporting her to Salem Township Hospital where she was airlifted to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment.
Barradas was formally charged Tuesday morning in Marion County Court with Class X felony aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm, Class 1 felony aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle or structure, and Class 3 felony possession of a weapon by a felon. He’s expected to appear in court this afternoon to be advised of the charges against him.
