
CENTRALIA — A 35-year-old Centralia man was airlifted from the scene of a one-vehicle crash Wednesday on U.S. 51 south of Centralia near Greenview Road.
Travis Brinkmann was reportedly transported from the scene to a St. Louis area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to Illinois State Police, Brinkmann’s vehicle ran off the road for unknown reasons, struck a speed limit sign and rolled multiple times.
Marion County Sheriff’s deputies reported Brinkmann had been ejected from the vehicle and was semi-conscious when they arrived.
The sheriff’s office reported the crash just before 5 p.m. Wednesday and alerted motorists the highway was being shut down in all directions as first responders managed the incident.
Approximately two hours later one direction of the highway was reopened.
