WOODLAWN, Ill. — Thomas L.”Tom” Clinton, 87, of Woodlawn, IL passed at his home in Woodlawn, IL, in the early hours of Wednesday, November 22, 2023, surrounded by his family.

He was born on October 14, 1936, at home in Elk Prairie Township of Jefferson County, IL, the son of Carl Wallace and Rosalee (Moss) Clinton. He married Delores Ann (Williams) Clinton on November 9, 1956, in Woodlawn, IL.

Mr. Clinton played football for the Mt. Vernon Rams for four years, graduating in 1956. His nickname was “Bull.”  Ann was a Woodlawn High School cheerleader. They met at a grade school ballgame and celebrated 67 years of marriage on November 9, 2023, with a family meal in Mt. Vernon.

He worked for Dowzer Electric then Neal Brothers Roofing where he was a part of the crew that roofed the Mt. Vernon Drive-in Theater and also The Towers in Carbondale when they were first constructed. Mr. Clinton also worked in Maintenance at Inland Steel Coal, retiring after 30 years, in 1999.

Mr. Clinton is survived by his wife; his sons, Kevin L. and wife, Becky, of Woodlawn, Jerry T. and wife Nina, of Woodlawn; grandchildren Jeremy (Jessica), Dustin Clinton, Ryan (Morgan) Clinton, Kyle (Kayleigh Miller) Clinton all of Woodlawn and Carlie (Garrison) Jenkins of St. Louis, MO; Great-grandchildren, McKenzi Bartels, Gracelyn, Kaylynn, Kynlee, Caroline, and Jerrett Clinton. Mr. Clinton is also survived by a special niece, Becky Harmon of Mt. Vernon, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Melvin (Ruby) Clinton, James (Ruth) Clinton, Roberta (Charles) England, Geneva Clinton, Betty (Byford) Baltzell, and Thelma (Bobby) Dycus.

Friends may call on Monday, November 27, 2023, for visitation from 5-8 PM at the First Baptist Church of Woodlawn. Services will be held on Tuesday, November 28 at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church of Woodlawn. Burial will be at the Oddfellows Cemetery in Woodlawn. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Oddfellows Cemetery of Woodlawn.
