
CENTRALIA — Mary Ann Plakovic, 97, of Centralia passed away on October 30th, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. She was born on May 8th, 1926 to C. H. Jensen and Nina A. (Davis) Jensen in Centralia.
She married Emil James Plakovic on July 22nd, 1946 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He preceded her in death.
Mary Ann is survived by her son James Plakovic and wife Kathy of Seattle, WA; daughter Ann Corns of Tinley Park, IL; grandchildren Richard G. Corns Jr., Heather Sterling and David, Samantha Ferguson and Ryan, Nick Corns, Emma Plakovic, Christina Plakovic, Jessica Plakovic, Callie Plakovic and Andrew Belics, Dylan Plakovic, and Faith Plakovic; great-grandchildren Ophelia Ritz and David “DJ” Sterling; special friends Sharon Kasten and Charlene Mott; niece Marilyn Lewis; nephew Chuck Lewis and wife Judy; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband, Mrs. Plakovic was preceded in death by her parents; son Steven Plakovic; brothers Davis and Robert Jensen; sister Pauline and Fred Lewis, and nephew Fred Lewis.
Mrs. Plakovic was involved in many organizations throughout her life. She was a member of the O.K. Campers Club and the Orland Park Nurses Club. She was a Girl Scout Leader from St. Michael’s church in Orland Park. She was a part of the Altar Rosary Society at St. Mary in Centralia and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a part of Friends of the Library, where she volunteered.
Per Mary Ann’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Centralia Regional Library and can be accepted at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street, Centralia, IL 62801, who is honored to be of service to Mary’s family.
