MOUNT VERNON — There are nearly 13 million women-owned businesses in the United States — that’s 42% of all companies in the U.S. – and they employ 10 million people and generate about $1.8 trillion annually.

October is Women-Owned Small Business Month and Withers Broadcasting, in conjunction with Mod Threads Boutique in Mt. Vernon, is promoting local women-owned businesses throughout the month.

One local woman-owned business will be randomly chosen each week to receive an advertising package for free to use with our stations and to recognize them with a shout-out.

Today our first winner has been named. A Pocket Full of Sunshine is a special event venue, specializing in weddings, among other events.

Talia Campbell, a single mother, owns and operates A Pocket Full of Sunshine, striving to provide the most memorable and unique once-in-a-lifetime events for her guests.

She offers a venue hall, and individual rental items, and also provides an option to her guests for décor.

Listeners noted that her motivation and dedication to her business and community is not only overwhelming but inspiring.

She always recommends other local businesses to her clients, helping make Mt. Vernon and Jefferson County a popular hotspot to hold weddings and events, bringing more people to the community.

You can find A Pocket Full of Sunshine at their website at apocketfullofsunshine.info or on Facebook.

Withers Broadcasting is a successful woman-owned business, and we want to recognize other area businesswomen.

All you need to do is nominate a business of your choosing using on our website to enter your favorite woman-owned business and they’ll be entered to win.

Winners will be drawn on Friday each week in October.
