VANDALIA, — The Vandalia Police Department is reporting potential threats made to Vandalia High School Thursday.

According to police, after working together with the Vandalia School District it has come to light that the initial allegations were fabricated by a group of individuals.

Police say the allegations were taken extremely seriously, as the safety of students and educational institutions is paramount. However, police reassured the community that there was no credible threat to the school or its occupants.

In response to these false allegations, the department is conducting a comprehensive investigation to determine the appropriate legal actions to be taken and notes that transmitting or causing the transmission of threats, whether real or false, is a serious offense under Illinois law. Such actions can lead to criminal charges.

Authorities emphasize the importance of responsible behavior and the severe consequences that can result from making false threats. False threats not only divert critical resources away from genuine issues but also create unnecessary fear and anxiety within the community.
