MOUNT VERNON — Mt. Vernon Township High School Superintendent Melanie Andrews has been named the region’s Superintendent of the Year.
Andrews, who has served as Mt. Vernon High School’s superintendent for three years, will represent school superintendents from seven Southern Illinois counties in the statewide Illinois Association of School Administrators’ 2024 Superintendent of the Year and Superintendent of Distinction award programs. Andrews received the award at the Division’s regular meeting on Wednesday.
Waltonville School Superintendent and Egyptian Division President Mike Denault said after the award presentation that Andrews embodies the ideals of hard work, community service, and tenacity.
He says she thrives on seeing her people—students, staff members, and other professional colleagues—succeed, and that she loves Mt. Vernon High School, her staff members, and her students in an extraordinary way. Denault says Andrews is 100% service-minded, and they’re proud she will represent the region through this award.
The Egyptian Division of IASA, the regional branch of the statewide superintendents’ association, serves district superintendents in Franklin, Hamilton, Jefferson, Perry, Washington, Wayne, and White counties.
