MOUNT VERNON — The Mt. Vernon Fire Department has announced its fall leaf-burning dates for 2023.
According to Fire Chief Kevin Sargent, the first leaf-burning period this fall is from Monday, October 9, through Sunday, October 15.
The second date is during the second full week of November, which runs from Monday, November 13, through Sunday, November 19.
Chief Sargent reminds people that no burning should occur on any public street, sidewalk, or drainage ditch with the public right-of-way.
Fires should not be placed on any manhole cover or on the property of another without their written permission.
All fires must be physically attended by someone at least 18 years old at all times.
And burning of any kind can be prohibited at any time by the order of the Fire Chief, due to high winds, dry conditions, or other factors.
