CARBONDALE — A Carbondale man has been arrested in connection with Tuesday night’s report of shots fired and an aggravated robbery near the Carbondale Chili’s on East Main.

Carbondale Police say as a result of their investigation, 30-year-old Juan M. Rivera was charged with Assault, Aggravated Robbery, and Aggravated Battery.

The robbery victim who fired the gun is not facing charges at this time as the Jackson County State’s Attorney reviews the case for further potential charges.

Rivera was lodged in the Jackson County Jail.

When officers arrived on scene around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, they learned that a robbery happened in the parking lot of a nearby business which led to the victim’s friends chasing the suspect into and out of businesses in the 1200 block of East Main. The suspect was then chased into the parking lot near Chili’s where the victim fired a handgun at the suspect. No one was injured during the incident.

Carbondale Police continue to investigate. Anyone with information should call Carbondale Police at 618-549-2121.
