JEFFERSON COUNTY — Jurors were selected Tuesday in a case accusing a 57-year-old Mt. Vernon man of attempted murder for allegedly disarming and then shooting at a correctional officer returning him to the Jefferson County Courthouse.
Twelve jurors and two alternates were selected to begin hearing the case Wednesday morning against Frederick Goss.
Goss was on trial in an earlier case accusing him of armed robbery and then shooting at a Mt. Vernon patrol officer when the correctional officer in the new case was returning him to the courthouse following lunch recess.
Goss was present Wednesday for the jury selection and was in restraints after both prosecution and defense attorneys agreed to the restraints provided they weren’t visible to jurors.
The trial is scheduled to begin this morning, with jurors hearing opening statements.
Goss is currently serving a 40-year prison sentence in a previous case after a different jury found him guilty of armed robbery and discharging a firearm at a police officer.
