MOUNT VERNON — Robert Ferrell Eubanks, 72, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 11:05 pm August 12, 2023 at his residence. He was born August 7, 1951 in Harrisburg, Illinois to the late William Albert and Dorothy Elaine (Mills) Eubanks. Robert married Sue (Arnold) Eubanks on February 14, 1976 in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

In addition to his beloved wife of forty-seven years, Robert is survived by his sons, Sean Robert Eubanks of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Joshua Blake Eubanks of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandsons, Vance Eubanks and Christopher Blake Eubanks; sister, Juanita “Sissy” Sweers of Flint, Michigan; brother, Richard Eubanks and wife, Kelly of Benton, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his siblings, Al, Harry, Jerry, Phyllis, Patricia, and Mary Lou Eubanks and brother-in-law, Louis Sweers.

Robert worked as a coal miner for Freeman Coal Company in Waltonville for many years and later worked for Springfield Coal. He volunteered to deliver for Meals on Wheels, was a member of Mount Vernon Lions Club and Faith Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Robert’s honor to Faith Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon or Jefferson County Animal Shelter.
