BELLE RIVE, Ill. — Carolyn Sue Hayes, 77, of Belle Rive, Illinois, passed away at 10:45 am August 2, 2023 at home with her family by her side.

She was born June 28, 1946 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Issac and Juanita (Newbury) Morgan. Carolyn married Donald Ray Hayes on May 9, 1964 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage.

In addition to her beloved husband, Carolyn is survived by her sons, Robert Allen Hayes and wife, Jeron of King George, Virginia and Andrew Paul Hayes of Belle Rive; daughter, Shaelynn Tice of Saint Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Cody Hayes and wife, Kelsey of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Randa Monroe and husband, Evan of King George; great-grandchildren, Tanner Hayes and Finley Hayes, both of Virginia Beach, and Easton Monroe of King George; and brother, James Morgan and wife, Dorothy Morgan of Cowella, Illinois.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her daughters, Lori Beth Hayes and Denise Lenae Tice.

Carolyn was a faithful member of Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Smith County Board. In her spare time, Carolyn enjoyed bowling and golf. Her greatest joy was the time she shared with her family. Carolyn will be deeply missed.

A Visitation will be held Monday, August 7, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at 10:00 am at Newell Funeral Home with Reverend Travis Hayes officiating. Interment will follow at Smith-Veterans Cemetery in Belle Rive.
