MOUNT VERNON — Stewart Alson Bean, 94, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 10:55 pm July 26, 2023, at his residence.
He was born July 5, 1929, in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Ernest and Gene (Houston) Bean. Stewart married Betty Jones Bean on May 7, 1949. They were blessed with fifty-five years of marriage before she preceded him in death on August 23, 2004
Stewart is survived by his son-in-law, Ronald Page; children, Sue Davenport and husband, Martin of New Concord, Kentucky, Randy Bean of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Paula Hampton and husband, David of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Matt Page and fiancée, Stephanie Culp, Chad Hampton and wife, Michelle, Justin Page and wife, Michelle, Jody Mack and husband, Jarad, Jenny Davenport, Julie Davenport, and Doug Hampton; and great-grandchildren, Ava Hampton, Jake Page, Hannah Hampton, Austin Mack, Kayden Mack, Emma Jo Mack, Skylar Hampton, and Dalton Hampton.
In addition to his parents and wife, Stewart was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Page and siblings, Evelyn Simms, Melvin Bean, Freda Keip, and Anna Keip.
Mr. Bean worked at the Stove Foundry, General Radiator, and sold automobiles at Bayer Oldsmobile. Later in life, Stewart and Betty lived in St. Augustine, Florida where Stewart worked and managed at Old Jail and Trolley Tour Company. Upon returning home, Stewart worked at as a salesman at Southern Illinois Door and Gutter Company for several years before retiring. He was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church and enjoyed tending to his small farm. Above all, Stewart was a family man and enjoyed family gatherings.
A Visitation will be held Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 31, 2023 at 10:00 am at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Les Sinks officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Stewart’s honor to Logan Street Baptist Church or Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church.
