MARION COUNTY — A 26-year-old Centralia man being sought in connection with the shooting death of a dog last weekend reportedly turned himself in Wednesday night to the Marion County Jail.

Bond for Jarvis Brown was set Friday in Marion County Court at $10,000. He was formally charged with Class 3 felony being a felon in possession of a firearm and Class 4 felony aggravated cruelty to animals.

Brown had reportedly been beating one of his dogs outside a home in the 200 block of East Seventh in Centralia when the animal began fighting with another dog.

Brown allegedly fired a shot at the animals, striking and killing one dog before he went back inside the home and ultimately left the area.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for August 22, along with a first appearance with Brown’s court-appointed attorney.
