MOUNT VERNON — Maurice E. Bundy, 81, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.

He was born October 25, 1941 in Centralia, the son of Delbert Bundy and Mildred (Johnson) Bundy.

Maurice is survived by his two daughters: Cheryl Lopez and husband Zeke of Mt. Vernon and Teresa Hoyt and husband George of Walnut Hill; six grandchildren: Matthew Piercy and wife Lindsay of Mt. Vernon, Ashley Hoffman and husband Doug of Mt. Vernon, Collin Hoyt of Centralia, Kelsey Hoyt and fiancé Chase Kuhlman of Walnut Hill, Dan Lopez and wife Tena of Holland, Indiana, and Dana Marlow and husband Jeff of Evansville, Indiana; nine great-grandchildren: Jackson, Loralye, Andrew, Caleb, Abby, Olivia, Evan, Graham, and Liam; three brothers: Shelby Bundy and wife Sharyn of Odin, Marvin Bundy and wife Patty of Centralia, and Rev. Dallas Bundy and wife Judy of Salem; two sisters: Marcia Robb and husband Marlin of Watson and Wanda Gillett and husband Carroll of Moweaqua, Illinois; two sisters-in-law: Sherry Bundy of Ames, Iowa and Joyce Bundy Scrivner of Salem; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Delbert and Mildred Bundy, two brothers: Sterling Bundy and Dwaine Bundy, sister: Pamela Joan Bundy, sister-in-law: Nancy Bundy, a nephew: Christopher Bundy, and a niece: Ranae Bundy Helpingstine.

Maurice worked as a lineman/splicer for Illinois Bell for 27 years and he continued his career with Mastec Communication until his retirement at the age of 70. During his young years, he enjoyed planting and growing a garden. He was an avid fan of old Western shows and movies. He was of the Baptist Faith. Maurice cherished the time he spent with his family.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 12:00 PM at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Centralia with Pastor Aaron Trotter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson Disease Foundation and/or Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Bundy family.
