FARINA, Ill. — Ted L. Jahraus, 93, of Farina, Illinois passed away at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham with family by his side.

Born March 27, 1930 in Farina, he was the son of George W. and Ella (Elizabeth) Hohlt.

Ted attended Farina-LaGrove High School in Farina , excelled academically and was an outstanding basketball player. He loved sports, gardening, and serving his community and friends in anything they may need. He formerly served on the Farina Cemetery Board, was a faithful helper to the Farina American Legion Post, and was a former member of the school board. Ted was a faithful member of Friedens United Church of Christ in Farina, where he served as a Sunday school Superintendent, was a teacher for 18 years, and a member of the church board. He will be remembered by his family as a wonderful, Godly man, fair in his dealings, and willing and ready to help anyone in need at anytime. He was a farmer. Though he retired at age 64, he continued to remain active in the farm and its operation until his death.

He married Joann Sinclair in Farina, IL at the Seventh Day Baptist Church on September 3, 1950 and she survives.

Also surviving are their children Mark Jahraus and wife Diane of Vandalia, IL, Joyce Hartmann and husband Glen of St. Peter, IL Gayla Jahraus of Vandalia, IL and Joe and wife Sarah of Altamont, IL. Also their grandchildren Adam Jahraus, Amanda Stapleton, Jacob Jahraus and Derek Jahraus, and great-grandchildren Brianna, Keegan, Grant, Audrey, Cara, Ella, Jax, Remi and Jade. Also left to mourn his passing is his brother Bob Jahraus and wife Carrel Ann of Farina.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, John, Don, Eugene, Cy, Harriett Fitzgerald and Sue King. Also his granddaughter Karisa Jahraus.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday at the Friedens United Church of Christ in Farina, with Forrest Elkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Farina Cemetery. Visiting hours will be at the church from 9:00 am until the service hour. Memorials may be made to the Farina Cemetery or the Farina American Legion Post and will be received by the Sutherland – Rankin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 97, 310 N.
