JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 43-year-old Dix man has pleaded guilty in Jefferson County Court to one of three felony charges accusing him of sexually abusing two juvenile sisters.

Brian Teriet was arrested in March of last year and charged with three Class 2 felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim more than 5 years his junior.

Detective Bobby Wallace of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office told Withers Broadcasting at the time of the arrest that one sister disclosed information alleging indecent touching by Teriet a few years ago.

That led to an investigation and additional allegations that he had also inappropriately touched the other sister. One girl was reportedly 13 or 14 and the time of the allegations and the other was 15.

Bond was set at $150,000 and Teriet posted bond a few days after his arrest. He pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Then in June of this year, he entered an Alford plea on one of the three charges and was sentenced to 30 months probation and 100 hours of public service. An Alford plea essentially says the defendant isn’t admitting guilt but is admitting prosecutors likely have enough evidence to obtain a guilty verdict.

Teriet will also have to register as a sex offender, receive treatment, and will have to comply with strict rules regarding his internet usage. The other two charges in the case were dismissed per the plea agreement.

More than $10,500 of his cash bond was applied to fines and fees in the case and the remaining $3,500 was returned to him.
